Is it possible that my manual pump (Pigeon) works better than my electric (the so-called Mercedes Benz of pumps, Freestyle)...? Or could something be wrong with my electric pump? Gahh. So frustrating. I read a couple of blogs saying a manual pump will come in handy (if you mainly use an electric one) in the case of prolonged trips outside. Say, if you go to the mall and did not anticipate having dinner out as well, at least there is a hassle-free way to pump milk. When I say hassle-free, I mean just carrying this:
Instead of lugging all this around:
With the manual pump, I can just put it in my everyday bag (my trusty large long handle Longchamp in chocolate brown) and pump whenever I feel full.
PLUS. With the manual pump, I get to express about 1-1.5 oz. in 20 minutes (10 minutes each side) whereas with the electric, I only get about 1 oz. for 40 minutes of pumping. This has really left me stumped! I contacted Medela Moms and told them about my situation and they suggested coming to the Medela House again to have myself re-fitted (for shields) and my pump checked. I think I'll do that this week. Although I am very happy to know that I get to express more milk now, I would not want to render a very expensive pump useless! Wish me luck!
